At our first Women in CE meeting I learned of the Mentoring Program. I applauded the idea as a great way to usher young and/or new women through the perils of the electronics industry. It never occurred to me to seek a mentor for myself. I had 25+ years experience and surely bore the numerous scars of an industry veteran! That said, after some discussion at CES 2010 Helen Heneveld of Bedrock Learning and I agreed to collaboratively mentor one another peer-to-peer. We each wrote down our goals and expectations – which were wildly different. We compared notes and committed to meet over the phone on Fridays to share progress (and setbacks too). We hold each other accountable for stated objectives and celebrate each other’s accomplishments. What an impact this simple commitment has made in our lives.
